I have been a staunch proponent of blogging and think of it is as useful for not only promoting yourself but as mentioned above you can cultivate your writing talents and meet new friends along the way by being active in the blogosphere. I participate in these challenges not so much cause I feel addicted to them I do them to see what others out there are doing and learn from them if they have something that I find I didn't know before.
